I still got a couple of thousand Cyma Gift Certificate (GC) at hand which is more than a year old already. I thought at first that the GC is already expired, but since there are not expiry date indicated, my girl and I took our chances at Cyma Shangri-la. And I'm glad we did.

The restaurant is a bit occupied as there is a reservation for two groups of 10, I think. Thus, we got not other option but to be positioned at the seats outside of the store. The ambiance is still cozy nonetheless. We prefer to have our GCs validated first before we placed our order. Yes, you read our minds. Our order will depend on the result of the validation, LOL! Upon confirmation that we could still use our GC, we ordered a complete set of meal (less the drinks).

For our appetizer, we ordered Kalamarakia valued at P300. It is a Crispy Baby Squid breaded and deep fried to a crisp served with Tzatziki sauce with sprits of lemon. This is a meal in itself, I could have just ordered an extra rice for this. But of course I won't, as I need to consume the value of my GC, ha ha.

For our main dish, we opted at having Souvlaki and Pasta. We ordered Seafood Swordfish (P395) which is served with grilled warm pita bread, parsley salad, and yogurt garlic sauce. I can take the pita bread less the souvlaki. I am curious if the pita bread is the unleavened bread mentioned in the Bible. Our pasta dish is Baby Clams Angel Hair (Solo at P300) which is composed of Cyma Original - Pacific baby clams, white wine, lemon parsley, grated parmesan cheese and garlic EVOO. But since our souvlaki dish is enough to feed two hungry stomach, we opted at having our pasta for take out.

Lastly, for our dessert, we ordered a scoop of Pagoto (P145) - Pistachio Ice Cream that is served with pistachio bits and honey. Well, the honey seem not to complement the ice cream. I would still go for Selecta's Pistachio.

In total, we had around P1,300 (SC included). So I still got a thousand to spare. I believe Cyma Trinoma is already waiting for us. :)

Triggering Print Screen in PowerBuilder

The setup in our office is ~~a little bit~~ strict. Capturing the screen will do no good. And I don't want to explain here in detail why and how come. Print Screen simply would not work the way you want it to behave. Period.

Being a programmer by heart, you know I won't give up that easily. For sure I'll search the web for ways on how to trigger the Print Screen key dynamically using the programming language that I know - PowerBuilder. So here you go.

A Global(Local) External Variable should be declared:

Print Screen's Ascii equivalent is 44. Hence, to trigger it dynamically, issue the following command:

keybd_event( 44, 0, 0, 0 )

Calling the said event would place a screen capture of your entire screen in your clipboard. Now, I need not to explain what clipboard is right? Alternately, you may simply want to capture the active window. To do so, issue the following command:

keybd_event( 44, 1, 0, 0)

It is similar to issuing an Alt+Print Screen. Since you'll be capturing the active window, you can only capture the window where this event is being called. So, it is not really that much of a help if you wanted to capture a screen outside of your PowerBuilder application.

Note: From the source, it is stating the other way around, but from the actual tests that I conducted, the one I presented lives to be true.

Linguine in Pesto Sauce at Conti's Pastry Shop & Restaurant

A month ago, before heading to SM Master Chefs Cooking Marathon at SM City Baliwag, I met with my good ol' friends at TriNoMa - the gels. We had a ~~loud~~ chit-chat and a little ~~window~~ shopping around before we had our favorite hobby, eating. After going through a number of choices from the concierge, we finally decided to have our lunch at Conti's Pastry Shop & Restaurant located at P1 Level, Trinoma, EDSA corner North Avenue, Quezon City with contact numbers (+632)900-5013 to 15 and (+63922)881-9127.

We seat ourselves where we find comfortable and started looking at the menu for our food choices. Being a pasta lover, and seeing a table adjacent to us eating a pesto, I ordered a Linguine in Pesto Sauce with Seafood that costs P275. As their menu describes it, "Rich green basil sauce served on delicious linguine." I just can't wait to savor it. I've been missing pesto for quite so long.

My friends had for them Calamari (P125), Roast Porkloin (P195), Chicken Ballotine (P225), and Garlic Sotanghon (p95).

Honestly, I was not able to enjoy my food. Yes, I do crave for pesto, but the taste does not satisfy my cravings. Even my pasta comes with two garlic breads, it still does not complement what is lacking from my pesto. Most probably, I did not enjoy it because of too much oil. I know that pesto do come with much oil, but I believe not that much. Good thing I am with my friends whom I do enjoy the company. If not, it could have been a lonely lunch for me. I should have just ordered Grilled Salmon Head (P240) which I do enjoy at their Bonifacio High Street (BHS) branch a few days back.

Anyway, I still got the chance to satisfy myself with their Calamari. But for our group, we enjoyed best the Chicken Ballotine (at the rightmost part of the picture above). I'll definitely try that one next time. Probably this weekend? *tee hee*

We failed to have our drinks. Actually, we had ordered our drinks; only, the waiter failed to deliver it to us. We just let it pass. And supposedly, we'll be having our dessert; but unfortunately, I have to go. I'm already late with my event at SM Baliwag. But given we still have the luxury of time, I'll surely have my Turtle Pie (P85) for dessert.

Connect to MySQL from Remote Computer

Early this morning, I tried to connect an application I developed in PowerBuilder to a MySQL server residing in another computer. I had a number of tries before I successfully establish a connection. I thought it would be as easy as 1-2-3, but because I had overlooked some settings, particularly Firewall, I had to spend a couple of hours before I shouted Eureka!

I had second thoughts on sharing this information, but I shrugged my shoulder and think that this post will save my a** in the future come I forget this little settings.

Foremost, you need to install MySQL ODBC Connector. After successful installation, choose from the following to properly establish connection.

Connect to MySQL in the same computer

Data Source Name is a user identified field. You can name it whatever you want. Just make sure it is relevant to the database connection. For server, since it is residing in the same machine, you may simply input localhost or 127.0.0.1. The port, by default is 3306. The default user is root. You may or you may not identify the database in this window. Upon clicking of Test, connection must be successful.

Connect to MySQL from different computer

Now, this is where my problem arose earlier. I cannot establish connection by merely supplying the IP address/Computer name of the machine where MySQL resides. The things that I overlooked are:

Firewall

MySQL machine's firewall settings restricted connection. However, it is not advisable to turn off the firewall completely; instead, simply allow MySQL connections over your firewall.

User Administration

In your MySQL Administrator, define a new host from which the user can connect using the value % which would allow any host to establish connection.

In the schema privileges, make sure to grant the schema that the user will access over the network. And don't forget to restart the service before trying again.

SM Master Chefs Cooking Marathon at SM City Baliwag

After meeting up with the gels at Trinoma yesterday, I hurriedly ride on a bus to take me to SM City Baliwag as they will be holding the SM Master Chefs Cooking Marathon.

The recipes shared by Master Chef Menoy Jimenez together with Master Brand CDO that fruitful afternoon were Ulam burger Fajitas and Tocino Chao fan.

Master Chef Menoy Jimenez

Ulam burger Fajitas (Good for 2 servings)

Ingredients

2 pcs. Tortilla wrap
1 pc. Ulam burger, panfried and cut into strips
100g. Cheddar cheese, grated
100g. Tomato salsa
50g. Iceberg lettuce, shredded
50ml. garlic mayonnaise

Procedure

In a large Teflon pan, heat up tortilla wrap until soft. Assemble the rest of the ingredients in the center of tortilla wrap. Fold tortilla wrap like a lumpia and heat again until it turns a bit brown.
Cut into half and serve with nachos on the side

Tocino Chao fan (Good for 2 servings)

Ingredients

30ml. peanut oil
56g. leeks(white part), chopped
30g. garlic, minced
200g. Young pork tocino, blanched and stir fried
100g. frozen mixed vegetables
2 cups Cooked rice
20g. chicken powder
50ml. oyster sauce
2pcs. Eggs
50g. leeks(green part), chopped

Procedure

Heat peanut oil in a wok. Saute leeks and garlic. Add in tocino and mixed vegetables and stir fry for about 2 minutes. Add in rice. Mix until thoroughly combined. Seasoned with chicken powder and oyster sauce.
Meanwhile, beat eggs and pour in the rice mixture and the leeks. Heat through and serve hot.

A Taste of What Had Been Cooked

While cooking, Chef Menoy had squeezed in between some facts about the Master Brand CDO. Among which are:

CDO is an acronym derived from the founder's name - Corazon Dayro Ong
CDO has been 36 years in the industry (wow, even before I exist!); hence, started 1975
CDO Young Pork Tocino has less sugar and has no salitre (curing salt, preservatives) which allows us to cook it without having to burn the pan

I know there are still a lot of these bits of information that Chef Menoy had mentioned that I may not be able to take note of. But for sure, the students and customers present had picked all those pieces.

These students that came from Marian College, Fernandez Colleges of Arts and Technology, and ACSAT and the customers alike listened and watched attentively with the cooking marathon. After the cooking demo, they were surprised with question and answers by which, the person with the correct answer can bring home a gift pack from SM Hypermarket and CDO. But before the Q&A commenced, the audience were entertained by the SM Hypermarket Dancers.

Students were also that lively when they were asked to join SM Hypermarket's holla of "Happy to Serve!"

Aside from Q&A, a couple of bring me contest were also conducted. All these program ingredients made the event above enjoyable.

Yesterday, I had attended the 4th leg of the SM Master Chefs Cooking Marathon at SM Hypermarket of SM Baliwag. You may check the tentative schedules here.

Starting this month up to September, SM Master Chefs will held a weekly marathon of cooking demos across all SM Hypermarket branches all over the nation (yes, Cebu included), that will showcase innovations in culinary products, cooking aids, and Master brands like San Miguel Great Food Club, Nestle, Unilever Food Solutions, Tabasco, Lee Kum Kee, Clara Ole, Bounty Fresh Chicken, and CDO, among others.

Before blogging about my experience (which deserves another blogpost), allow me first to share the press release of SM Hypermarket regarding this event as part of their 10th anniversary (wow, the same my anniversary with my angel!).

Food worship: the new pop cult?

IMAX at SM City North EDSA

Last Saturday, we had a family day by watching Transformers: Dark of the Moon at IMAX, SM City North EDSA.

But I won't be discussing about Transformers here, for it deserves a separate blogpost in my entertainment blog. So, let me just share about you my IMAX experience.

Since Transformers is somewhat a phenomenon, it is just safe to purchase tickets online rather than take chance on queuing on a blockbuster line and ending up on a not so comfortable seats. Hence, we purchased tickets online via SM Cinema Online. Ticket price is at PhP400.00, but it has additional costs:

PhP50.00 for IMAX food bundle (which I don't know if also mandatory for offline purchases and is only a popcorn - no drinks)
PhP20.00 for convenience fee (which is understandable)

For tickets purchased online, you simply have to scan your receipt at their designated areas (for SM North EDSA, it is located beside Cinema 11) to have your tickets printed.

Upon entering the cinema, we simply lie down since there are no available seats anymore in the waiting are. Anyway, it is carpeted. We also take time to have some photos taken with BumbleBee.

We lined up at the main cinema's entrance a few minutes before the showing time. Upon entering, everyone is handed the IMAX glasses for the ultimate 3D experience. We are a little unfortunate to have only reserve seats at line E.

I already lost count of the number of times I had watched at IMAX (Mall of Asia). My very first was Superman Returns way back 2006. As for my company, it is only my mother who had experienced IMAX as well when we had watched Monsters vs Aliens last April 2009. And that excites me for the rest to experience IMAX.

They were never disappointed! IMAX Experience is not as simple as 3D cinemas, you will really feel that you are part of the film. Why not? My niece even asked, "Tita Madz, tumataas ba tayo?"

Only, my niece was not able to fully enjoy it as she is somewhat annoyed with her eyeglasses falling as it does not fit her. I hope IMAX could provide eyeglasses for these little ones.

As for my sister, she prefer seats higher than line E, which is occupied by early birds of course. So let's be early birds for Harry Potter? :)

New 7 Wonders of Nature

When I was still studying, I know we had once learned about the Seven Wonders of the World. Unfortunately, I no longer remember what these 7 wonders are. But truly, there are wonders of nature that is so magnificent that would make us all utter, "God is really amazing!"

Being a proud Filipino, I brag about a number of beautiful places here in our land. The Banawe Rice Terraces and Boracay, to name a few, are really something we all should be proud of. And it makes me even more proud that we had a candidate for the New 7 Wonders of Nature, the Puerto Princesa Underground River. And let me quote from "New 7 Wonders of the World" website:

The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park is located about 50 km north of the city of Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Philippines. It features a limestone karst mountain landscape with an 8.2 km. navigable underground river. A distinguishing feature of the river is that it winds through a cave before flowing directly into the South China Sea. It includes major formations of stalactites and stalagmites, and several large chambers. The lower portion of the river is subject to tidal influences. The underground river is reputed to be the world's longest. At the mouth of the cave, a clear lagoon is framed by ancient trees growing right to the water's edge. Monkeys, large monitor lizards, and squirrels find their niche on the beach near the cave.

Figaro Coffee Philippines

After attending the launch of Runners Runner at ROX last June 17, 2011, RunningAtom, MinnieRunner, and I spent a moment of laughter at Figaro Coffee Company, Bonifacio High Street. Supposedly, we are to avail our free 8oz hot drink voucher (with a minimum of PhP 300 purchase) that I won from an online contest. However, the crew is somewhat hesitant to honor my voucher. Fortunately, they are running a Father's Day promo that is similar to that of the voucher (but the free hot drink is 16oz ). So, we avail of the latter instead since RunningAtom is already a father.

I am amazed on the design on top of our coffees. I know it takes an artist to do such. It is interesting to know that your drink is being prepared with love, right? As for the taste, I am satisfied. I believe we all have different desires on how our coffee should be. Mine is just right - not too strong.

The ambiance is equally great too. At that time, the store is filled with a number of people, mostly businessmen, I think. Only, it is not a WiFi hotspot.

Bloggers Buffet at Carol's Texan 5 Chicken and Ribs

My angel and I were among the lucky food bloggers who were chosen to be part of the very first Bloggers Buffet by Tristan Mirasol of Ten Minutes Tops held last June 23, 2011. Despite non-stop rain, we still proceed to partake of this event. Well, it is all worth it.

Honestly, I really don't know what Bloggers Buffet is all about. All I know is that we will be enjoying good food from Carol's Texan 5 Chicken and Ribs situated at 2F 713 J. Abad Santos St., Barangay Little Baguio, San Juan, Metro Manila, Philippines 1500.

I really thought that we will be among the early birds at the event for we arrived a little early from the registration time (6.30pm). But I am really awed to see more than ten (10) of the participants already there. A little timid, we just find our place from the tables there and had some picture taking.

I really love having our pictures taken in this "Wanted" wall - with all the accessories provided (cowboy hats and guns).

After a few moments, the event officially started. Foremost, we were allowed to take photos of what we would be indulging in the buffet later.

After making us crave for this delicious-looking food, we were allowed to have our pictures taken in the Photo Balloon booth. This is something nice! We were able to get hand of our photo balloons at the end of the event.

Tristan then discussed what Bloggers Buffet is all about. Basically, it is a food review and food events blog where bloggers can gather into a single feast, sharing thoughts and enjoying the abundance of good food. He as well encourages ~~food~~ bloggers to share their food reviews with Bloggers Buffet.

Then he give the floor to us bloggers to have a short introduction and how in the world we become bloggers. It is real nice to know each and everyone of them. And I must say I admire those who own a number of blogs - and are still able to update it regularly.

For the lady of the night, the owner of Carol's Texan 5 is given the opportunity to introduce her store.

A blogger friend living in Texas commented on my previous post that there's no such store in their area. It's a little ironic that there's no Carol's Texan in Texas for I thought it is an international food chain. Then Carol explained how she come up with the name. Carol, obviously came from her name (Carol Chan). Texan because she loves American food. Finally, 5 because she has 5 main entrees - Ultimate Texan Ribs, Dynamite Wings, Cowboy Roast Beef, Tomato Basil Pasta w/ Shrimp, and Five Star Fish and Fries. Hence, there really no Carol's Texan at Texas.

The best part, it's eating time!

Braving the rain is really worth it. I super love their Ultimate Texan Ribs partnered with vegetables and Texan rice. Believe it or not, I have to ensure that there's no more meat left in the bones before I leave it in my plate. However, I find the vegetables, carrots in particular, a little hard to bite. As for the Tomato Basil Pasta, it is fine. I'm just not a lover of tomato based pastas. What I love is pesto. Lastly, for the Dynamite Wings, I have to proudly say that I consumed around five wings, LOL!

Ambiance -wise, this is a good place to dine. Texan-themed place, comfortable seats, and clean restrooms too. In addition, it is a WiFi hotspot!

Six months in foreign land made me crave for Filipino dishes. My taste buds seem to be yearning for something. And guess what? Right when I step into our home (sweet home), I immediately indulged myself to one of my favorites - dinuguan.

Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830

Yesterday, we head on to buy a new cellphone for my mother. Beforehand, I asked her to think of the type of phone that she like - typical Nokia phone, qwerty keyboard, slide, flip, or touch-type. After thinking it twice, she told me that she would love a touch-type phone.

As we go over the stores at SM North EDSA (Annex), we first thought of buying Nokia C7; primarily because Nokia is a user-friendly phone. It costs roughly PhP16,000. Then off we check on iPhone too. But maybe, since I already have an iPod Touch, the excitement of having one is not that intense.

Near the Apple Store is the Samsung Mobile phone store, we stop by and check what we can get.

A sample unit of this Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 is available; and so, I ask my mother to give it a try and how she feels if that would be our choice. When asked if she would love to have it, she said, "YES".

I am not really particular with specifications and all. The thing that could urge me to give it a "GO" is the design/style. So, I really did not look closely into it. Besides, I remember this phone is the one that my angel would want to have. So, right then and there, we purchased one. It costs PhP 14,490. This unit is cheaper in one of the stores we happen to check, but my brother is not that complacent with that store; so we chose to purchase from Samsung's official store.

Personally, I believe this phone is that competent in the market today. Keyboard can be qwerty, 3 x 4, or handwriting. SMS are arranged in threads. Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo Messenger and Mail, Google Talk and Mail, Foursquare, Skype, and other social media sites are available for download in Android Market. And did I say that you can actually make a video call using this phone? At the same time, it allows a voice input when you SMS (only, the recognition is not that accurate). But of course, this phone has its shortcomings (LOL!). The phone just comes with a 2GB external memory. If you would love to download a number of applications, you have to extend it (up to 32GB). Even if you can use this to make video calls, there is no camera in front; so, you make a choice - it's either you can see who you're talking too, or the other way around. Similar with iPhone, the battery is not that long lasting (especially because you are 24/7 connected to WiFi).

In a nutshell, this is already a good buy and is deserving a 4/5 rating from me.

Parkview Square

Around a couple of weeks before my last day here in Singapore, I aimed at visiting some of the recommended places for sightseeing. Thus, last May 10, 2011, my friends and I drop by at Parkview Square after office hours for some picture taking.

Parkview Square is located at 600 North Bridge Road, a few meters walk from Bugis Station. It is also called as "Batman House" or "Bat Cave" mainly because of the inner architecture of the building.

The picture above is my amateur shot of the building's facade. Yes, I can't help myself but admire the beauty of it's architecture. But of course, for me, nothing beats Petronas Tower (yet). Another attraction of Parkview Square are the statues of known personalities lined up in the sides of the building. Lincoln, Plato, Churchill, and Newton to name a few.

Where's the Batman House? We now enter the building to take a peak of it. Unfortunately, picture taking is not allowed. But it is surely worth to see.

After the sight-seeing, we head on our way to have our dinner at Just Acia, Marina Square.

One of the first questions I raised upon arriving here at Singapore is where to find a Catholic Church where I can worship God. On my first Sunday, I had the company of my dear friend Gwen. Unfortunately, I forgot what church it was; besides, we're late

The following week, I was able to praise God in the nearby church, Christ The King.

On my third Sunday, I attended the Holy Mass with my brother's friend, Ate Meme. We attended the Tagalog Mass at the Church of St. Alphonsus, more popularly known as Novena Church.

It is the Sunday when I had known about the Archdiocese of Singapore's Official Website - veritas.org.sg. With that, I aimed at visiting all of the churches here at SG one church at a Sunday.

Seems like the good Lord answered my prayers right away for the Simbang Gabi will be celebrated on different churches each night; hence, it will be nine nights in nine different churches. I vowed at completing the Simbang Gabi, and I did - in NINE DIFFERENT CHURCHES.

I will no longer post here the direction to get there as well as the mass schedules. All of the information are readily available in the official site. I would just share with you the photos that I had taken in each church that I visited.

Okay, I admit I've been loving Westlife over again. I just blogged about their song Safe a week ago. Mark Feehily's voice is simply irresistible. And yes, I also love their version of Michael Buble's Home. Fried Fish Noodles

I am not really fond at trying new food. Most of the time whenever I found a good food in a certain restaurant I will always order that same food each time I’ll dine in. This attitude or prerogative, or whatever you can call it, flew with me here at Singapore.

I haven’t really explored Singapore that much. At the same sense, I haven’t really tried a lot of local food around. But if there’s a thing that I would really miss when I come home to the Philippines is this…

That is fried fish noodles at Sony, IBP. For 3.5 SGD, I already had a lunch that would make me real full and satisfied. And you guessed it right, this had been my lunch earlier. I guess my week won't be complete without one (or two).

I specified that I had it from Sony, IBP for I tried fried fish noodles at Ang Mo Kio Hub and felt disappointed after my first spoonful.

I just drank a bottle of Minute Maid Pulpy. They say it’s got ‘no preservatives added’. Aw, c’mon…It’s bottled juice. Is that even possible? So I thought maybe... it's just part of false, misleading and exaggerated promotions. Marketing strategy as they called it!

I didn’t believe it the first time I heard it’s got no preservatives added. So I read the ingredients (even the fine print) and everything checked out! It really has NO PRESERVATIVES ADDED! That means it doesn’t have ingredients that may turn out to be allergens, or worse...carcinogens! Whew! Now that’s healthy goodness that tastes so good, I... told to myself, how come a bottled fruit juice comes without a presence of any preservatives.

So okay, it’s got no preservatives added. That’s really good, right? Not just because it doesn’t have those icky, harmful ingredients, but it also means... it is PURE, NATURAL, and HEALTHY! This is exactly what I really need - a fresh fruit juice that has NO ADDED PRESERVATIVES and is readily available. It’s just like a juice came from fresh fruit extracted right in front of you.

Last Wednesday, my office buddies, my girl, and I had our dinner at T.G.I. Friday's Trinoma. It was a sort of early birthday celebration for my girl.

We ordered Jack Daniel's Half Ribs & Shrimp at PhP895, Fish & Chips Platter (I was not able to get the price), and Cajun Shrimp and Chicken Pasta (to share) at PhP595.

This plate is great as far as I'm concerned; however, one of my companions commented that the back ribs of Burgoo is better than Friday's. I had tasted both. I guess I'm just not a fan of back ribs, so I just like both. No one is better than the other.

This fish is sooooo tender. And I love their dip. I guess it does the trick. It tastes great.

This pasta is a little bit spicy. My girl loves spicy food, thus, she definitely love this one. Well, I do too. It's good.

Dairy Queen at SM North EDSA

I have been a fan of Dairy Queen (DQ) ever since my girl introduced it to me. However, since we become more health conscious lately, we had replaced DQ with frozen yogurts (froyo).

Last Friday, after enjoying a treat at Goldilocks by my officemate, we spotted the newly opened Dairy Queen branch at SM North EDSA. The one situated at the second floor that connects to the Sky Garden.

My girl asked them when they had opened the branch and the crew replied, "Just this morning."

We enjoyed our Chocolate Almond Blizzard that night. And that branch is something to look forward to for we need not proceed at SM Annex just to enjoy a cup. Unless we opt to have a cup of froyo.

F Salon and Body Spa

Last Saturday, my mother and aunt had their manicure and pedicure at F Salon and Body Spa, Pulilan branch. They went there on their own when suddenly, Stephanie asked me to go there too. What happens next is that we went there to fetch them. I really got no intentions on having my own pedicure; however, since I had washed my clothes that morning, I guess a little treat for myself will make me feel better. So, I don't just have a pedicure, I had a foot spa with pedicure, yey!

Beth, the staff that attended to me, immediately soaked my feet in that foot spa bin (I don't know what it was called). It remained soaked for around 30 minutes I guess. It was followed by the scrubbing and removing of my unwanted callouses. I know I got a number for I am a runner. And just when I thought the foot spa is done, I am treated with a relaxing foot massage. Though I had to tell Beth to make the massage a soft one.

It was then followed by the pedicure. It was my first time, believe it or not. He asked me what color to paint my toenails. I got only one color in mind - GREEN! I simply remember how Ray Allen had painted his toenails green, that's why! I'm a Celtic!

I am satisfied with their service. For just P280 pesos, I got foot spa with pedicure.

Actually, it was our second time to purchase the card for we know it is in anyway, worth the price. Purchasing the card already entitles the cardholder with a free (any) wet treatment (whose price ranges from P400 to PP1500) or Prince Massage (worth P380). However, it took us around four long months before we finally have our free treatment (which can only be availed from Sundays to Thursdays) scheduled, and it was only a month to go before the free service expires. So, it was last Thursday that we finally availed of our free treatment. We chose the Pyamicucu (priced at P1500) simply because it is the most expensive of all the free treatments, LOL! They defined it as a treatment that exfoliates and polishes the body with a cooling wrap that draws heat out of the body, softens and lightens the skin using all natural ingredients. Forgive me for I failed to take pictures of the establishment. It is quite dim there. Well, I guess it is just appropriate for spas in order to relax oneself. And the aroma, it is relaxing too. We waited for around 15 minutes before our room is readied.

Our pampering started with a scrub to exfoliate our whole body. It is relaxing and at the same time has that tingling feeling. After which, a solution of different fresh fruits is used to cover our whole body to polish and moisturize. I feel a bit itchy on my feet, but they told us that it is normal for the juices from the fresh fruits caused that itchy feeling. After 20 minutes (where I felt cold), we were headed to the shower room to take a bath.

The shower room seem to clog at the drain the fruit residues that comes from my wrap. And their bath towel is a little bit rugged already. I can't help but compare it to The Spa's high quality service and facilities. At the same sense, I was given a bath robe that can only cover half of my body (the upper part).

After the Pyamicucu treatment, we then fix ourselves and waited outside for our shoes. They also don't have that security in terms of your shoes (belongings). The staff there is giving me the wrong pair of shoes *sigh*. And at the act of leaving, we were asked if we would love to drink tea. They could have asked us while we were waiting for our room or our shoes. So, we just smiled and said no.

In fairness, I still got the pampering that I wanted.

Yoh-gurt Froz Frozen Yogurt Treats

Honestly, the first time I tried frozen yogurt (froyo), I never liked it. But on my second attempt, I just fell in love with it, with the plus factor that froyo is actually good for our health.

Earlier, pEDo, ChickenLegs, and I had a regular cup at Yoh-gurt Froz, ABS-CBN, ELJ Tower, Level 1, The Loop.

The regular cup costs P80. I did not order any toppings for I am on a tight budget at the moment, LOL! But additional 3 toppings would cost P40.

The froyo melts easily, but not too quickly. And its taste resembles that of I Heart Froyo; hence, it is still good. As long as it's froyo, I guess I'll recommend it, ha ha. But of course, you know which froyo is the best for me.

Pancake House

My girl and I celebrated our 112^th monthsary last Thursday (October 14) at Pancake House, Eton Centris. She's on leave that day to work with her documents; hence, the most practical place to meet is at Centris which is just a few blocks away from our office. We met a few minutes after 12nn.

My girl ordered for Special Salisbury Steak consisting of premium 1/3 lb Salisbury steak topped with that creamy mushroom gravy and bacon bits while I have Beef Tapa, a specially marinated tender beef strips pan-fried short of crunchy, served with garlic or plain rice (I choose garlic rice), fried egg and atchara.

For our drinks, we ordered Calamansi juice and softdrinks in can.

I enjoyed my plate more than my girl. The bacon bits is too hard that it looked like shredded bones. Nonetheless, the steak is superb. I failed to remember how much each costs. Anyway, we were able to use Sodexho Meal and Food Pass.

Golden Spoon Frozen Yogurt

Last Thursday, while waiting for other runner-blogger friends, I took a cup of Golden Spoon Frozen Yogurt - a small cup of simply tart froyo (P85) and almonds as toppings (P20) - at The Podium.

But I guess it's not the same as the first time I tasted it. The froyo melted too quickly. Nonetheless, I finished my cup; simply because I ♥ froyo.

Yup! Their spoon is golden :D

Still, my number 1 froyo is Red Mango. What's missing in Golden Spoon is their toppings. They only got limited number of toppings and are mostly nuts. I would have love it better if they offer fruits. In addition, they do not offer house water. You have to buy a bottle for P20 (if I remember it right).

Yes, you have to buy your own water.

And currently, I am uberly missing Red Mango. I haven't tasted a cup for so long now. *sigh*

Do You Prefer Printed Cards Too?

I still believe that nothing beats the warmth of giving printed cards on special occasions. Although thoughtfulness is an ingredient of both printed and e-cards; the effort seem to be priceless when we go back to the traditional ones. I, once in a while, give printed cards to my loved ones or even friends. I know that the smile that I can paint on their faces is something that brings forth joy to my heart to. In return, yes, I do want to receive a card too.

Even though electronic seem to replace everything; there are still a lot of sites that offer these electronic ones to be printed out. I know you are aware of the social sites that allow you to print your uploaded pictures at high quality prints. Because they know that they cannot wholly replace a printed one. I know you’re feeling it too.

The same is true with cards for special occasions. May it be birthday, anniversary, Christmas, or even Kwanzaa cards; these were all available for printing too. I even know one wherein you can put in several photos of you or the person to whom you would want to give the card. It is a sort of card and scrap book in one. I would have wanted to give my angel on his birthday, but time does not permit me to. Maybe I’ll be able to create one this coming Christmas, or Halloween, or better yet anytime soon. I need not any special occasion to be thoughtful.

I'm a bit down earlier; probably brought by hormonal changes in my body -- meaning, my hate day of the month is already near. In times like this, I do need a shock absorber; a friend whom I can share my thoughts and emotions. I'm glad that I had a few who can understand me (Thanks much Dude!).

To cheer me up, she asked me to have a lunch out together with Mark and BurpRunner. I gladly agree. At first, we're heading nowhere; and with an impulse of my emotion, I suggested to have our lunch at Little Quiapo which is a few meters away from our office.

As we enter the store, I got only one thing in mind to eat - Sinigang na Baboy. So as not to waste much time at thinking what to order, we (actually it's only Mark and I) agreed at ordering Sinigang na Baboy, Pinaputok na Bangus, and a platter of plain rice.

I'm sorry for the low quality pictures. And forgive me too for I failed to remember how much each dish costs. Well, our bill is P594 (with the platter of plain rice at P80). Hence, each dish costs P200+. It is worth every penny anyhow. One of the best sinigang I have tasted, and the crispiest bangus I have ever tried.

My girl and I meet earlier (lunch time) and had our meal at Binalot Fiesta Foods at Centris, EDSA corner Quezon Avenue.

My order was SINIGANG with a bang worth P80.00 (inclusive of rice); while she had Fiesta ADOBO at P95.00 that consists of chicken and pork adobo (small servings), slices of tomato and itlog na pula and rice.

I have to be honest. My meal is not that good. The pork is a little bit hard (not chewy at all). On the other hand, my girl is looking for the adobo that the Pinoys brag about (not this one).

Peanut Noodles with Shrimp

Before watching The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring yesterday, I cooked Peanut Noodles with Shrimp for my angel first. I got the recipe from Self.com; and let me quote it here.

INGREDIENTS

1 teaspoon canola oil
2 teaspoons minced fresh ginger
2 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
1 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce
4 teaspoons rice vinegar
1/2 teaspoon Asian chili sauce (or 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes)
1/3 cup natural-style smooth peanut butter
1/2 cup lower-sodium nonfat chicken broth
1/2 teaspoon salt
8 oz spaghetti
12 oz medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 red bell pepper, cored, seeded and julienned
1 cup snow peas
1 carrot, peeled and julienned

PREPARATION

Heat oil over medium-high heat in a saucepan. Add ginger and garlic; cook, stirring, 2 minutes. Add soy sauce, vinegar, chili sauce, peanut butter, broth, and salt; cook, stirring, until peanut butter dissolves. Simmer over low heat 7 minutes until thick and smooth. Meanwhile, cook spaghetti in salted boiling water 7 minutes. Add shrimp; cook 4 minutes. Add bell pepper and snow peas; cook 1 minute longer. Drain. Toss pasta and vegetables with peanut sauce and carrot.

Conti's Pastry Shop & Restaurant

Last Sunday, after joining Tiktakbo III Fun Run, my girl and I dropped by at Conti's Pastry Shop & Restaurant at P1 Level, Trinoma, EDSA corner North Avenue, Quezon City [Tel. No: (+632)900-5013 to 15; Mobile: (+63922)881-9127] to have our post race breakfast.

My girl ordered American Breakfast. It consists of toast with butter and jam served with fried egg, bacon and fresh fruits and costs P125. The fresh fruits include three (3) thin slices of banana, a couple of grapes, and bits of pineapple and melon. I can say it's sufficient for a 6K run; but not enough for more than that, he he. Their menu says that it is just available until 10AM.

As for me, what I have is just Turtle Pie that costs P85. Calories? No, I was unable to empty my plate.

If there's one thing that would make me keep coming back in this store, that'll be the Turtle Pie.

Indeed, my girl and I had been a fan of frozen yogurts (froyos).

Last Tuesday, we visited the newly open branch of Red Mango at TriNoma, Ground Floor Open Park (beside Max's Fried Chicken). Their store hours are Sun-Thurs: 10am–9pm and Fri-Sat: 10am–10pm.

We've been a number of froyo stores lately, and we both have the same taste - our number 1 froyo is Red Mango. Let me give you a list of some of the stores that we've been and their rank.

#4 - Yoh-Gurt Froz

The store that we visited is located at Trinoma, Level 3, inside Hobbes & Landes. Their yogurt melts too quickly.

#3 - The White Hat

Located at Trinoma – 2/F, near Crocs. Their yogurt tastes a little more sour.

#2 - Tutti Frutti

Located at Centris Walk. It tastes good.

#1 - Red Mango

The yogurt tastes just great and does not melts easily. So far, the best in our froyo list.

A Facebook friend shared a link to a free Oreo online via 7-11. I give it a try since it looked legit.

I registered, play some game, and then claim my free Oreo. I received an email telling me that I can claim my free snack pack at any 7-11 stores nationwide and indicated as well the nearest 7-11 that I indicated during registration.

I thought that the freebie is something. But I felt blah when I was handed this.

It is an Oreo Snack Pack (2pcs) of chocolate flavor. It is supposedly vanilla; but the store ran out of stock. Anyway, it's free! I should not be disappointed or something. But for those who will drop by 7-11 just for this pack, it is not worth it, I guess.

Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt

Last Sunday, my girl and I tried out Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt at Centris Walk. We were really into froyos nowadays. It's healthy.

The store is a do-it-yourself (DIY) froyo just like Frutti Froyo. Only, this one costs P20 per oz as compared to the P18 per oz of the latter. Anyhow, it is just fair for my girl told me it tastes much better.

The ambiance is a thumbs up for me. Silent. Relaxing. Or maybe, we just drop by on a non-peak hour.

Behind me are the flavored froyos. But what we had is just the plain one. You can't really enjoy the toppings if you had the flavored froyos.

My girl do me the favor of making our froyos. Although I asked her to put a little more froyo when I saw what she just had. For the toppings, she put in sliced almonds, blueberries, and kiwi.

Our cup costs P230. It definitely was good, better than The White Hat if you would ask. But still, Red Mango wins my loyalty.

We all know that Ramadan had started today, August 11, 2010. Many of our Muslim brothers and sisters (mostly in Mindanao) are currently professing their faith through fasting. This teaches them about patience, humility, and spirituality.

There are still a number of practices that Islam (Muslim) obeys. One is regarding their dietary laws. If you had a Muslim friend, and offered him dinuguan for lunch or dinner, he would obviously refrain from eating. They’ve got laws governing such for they believed that there are foods than can and cannot be eaten. Even food preparation is considered in this law. A number of substances are forbidden which includes pork, blood, animals slaughtered in the name of anyone but Allah, carrion, an animal that has been strangled, beaten, killed by a fall, gored, savaged by a beast of prey, food over which Allah’s name is not pronounced, and alcohol and other intoxicants. While some may find the law strict, we all should respect them in practicing their belief.

Curiosity had been triggered within me on how Muslims got to know which food is forbidden or not. And that brought me to the term Halal. In layman’s term, Halal is used to designate that a food is permissible (permitted) for consumption. In that way, it would make it easy for the Muslims to identify food and products that they can actually consume. And to help them further, a Halal food guide had been created which lists Halal certified food and products. I believe this one is of big help for hosts that would be having Muslim visitors.

If you’re a producer of a certain commodity for consumption and is Halal-certified, it would be best to submit your product to the listing of this Halal products guide site. This will promote awareness regarding your goods.

Got these goodies from Cebu from my angel from his recent Leyte-Samar Travel.

I love the dried green mangoes. However, don't expect it to be sweet, it's GREEN! And, for a seafood lover like me, dried pusit (plus tomatoes) means... extra rice :)) I believe dried pusit is bought at Tabo-an market. I've been to Cebu once, and that's where I bought one too.

My Choice: The Old Spaghetti House

Before, my angel and I normally dine at Chef d’ Angelo located at the food court of Trinoma. We enjoyed their seafood pasta, a highly recommended one. But somehow, we sometime find the food court overcrowded that we would want to have a sort of silence, if not privacy. Hence, we are now more inclined at dining at The Old Spaghetti House (TOSH) located at SM Annex.

I find it more comfortable at dining at the said store instead of the former. Foremost, I’m more of a pesto lover; and TOSH is offering one of the finest pesto I had eaten. Not to mention that their seafood marinara got a five star rating from me. I also love it that they offer hot tea for beverage – a great treat to health conscious individuals.

As far as the ambiance is concerned, privacy and silence is attained. We normally are seated at their couch lit by rustic furniture (their ceiling lights). More so, they are a (free) Wi-Fi hotspot. What more could you ask for?

Another thing that keeps us from coming back to the store is their excellent customer service. We are really satisfied. Let me say, I just feel at home.

Business Card Etiquette

Last July 9, 2010, I attended a blogger’s briefing regarding an upcoming race with my runner friends at Max’s Restaurant at Greenbelt 1, Makati City. While we were waiting for the briefing to officially start, someone from the organizers handed his business us to the attendees. I particularly noticed how my runner friend (who happened to be my cousin too) one handedly received the business card. In a way not to offend her, I told her a business card etiquette I learned from my former boss.

Giving out your business card to someone is like giving out yourself to them. Hence, with humility, you have to hand your business card with both hands. Likewise, on the side of the recipient, receiving someone else’ business card is like receiving the giver, himself. Thus, with acceptance, you should receive the business card with both hands as well.

Actually, there are other dos and don’ts in giving and accepting business cards. Some normally vary according to country. So, if you are a businessman on the go and normally need to carry business cards with you in your travel; it’s best that you also learn the etiquettes associated with it. Otherwise, some may find you disrespectful. Most will never mind if you had a cheap business card printing with you, what matters to them the most is the way you present your card. Keep that in mind.

Frutti Froyo

Supposedly, we would enjoy a cup of coffee at Starbucks, Tomas Morato. But since I am currently addicted to frozen yogurt (froyo), I insisted of having one instead. Fortunately, we pass by a froyo store at Tomas Morato to dine.

Frutti Froyo frozen yogurt is similar to that froyo store at Greenbelt 1 (I forgot the name of the store, pardon me) wherein you will be the one who'll create your own froyo and the price will be based on your froyo's weight (all-in). They had a number for flavored froyos, but I settle for the plain one. I just don't love the flavored one (like what I had back at GB1).

As for the toppings, I had my favorites - sliced almonds, blueberries (but they have a different one as compared to Red Mango and The White Hat), and kiwi. My cup is worth P121 (P18/oz). I enjoyed it and would definitely love to have another one these coming days (I'm addicted).

The Old Spaghetti House' Trio Treat

Yesterday marked the last day of my friend's life being a bachelor. He got married earlier, a simple celebration followed. Best wishes! But then, we does not let yesterday pass without a simple treat from him, ha ha.

We had our lunch out at The Old Spaghetti House, SM Annex branch. We are a group of 5. And since there's a promo for CitiBank credit card holders - that is free pitcher of iced tea for ever Trio Treat ordered, we settle for it.

We ordered Trio 2 (Healthy Option) and Trio 3 (Best Seller).

Trio 2 (worth P575) consists of Thai Crunch Salad, Spaghetti Puttanesca, and Ratatouille Pizza. I love the appetizer, but not the pasta. For the pizza, my company enjoyed it (but not me, because I don't like bell peppers on my pizza, hee hee).

Trio 3 (worth P585) consists of Appetizer Sampler (combination of chicken, onion rings, calamares, and fish fingers), Spaghetti Pesto w/ Grilled Chicken, and 4-Cheese Pizza. Now, this combination is a thumbs up for me. The appetizer sampler is superb. No questions asked with regard to spaghetti pesto (pesto's my favorite). And the pizza? So crunchy on the edges. Tastes real good. Served hot.

Kid Movies, are You In?

Movies. I am really not a fan of movies. But I guess when some become the “talk of the town”, I become interested. Aside from that, I grew fondness with cartoon movies. Believe it or not, I even watched Monsters vs. Aliens at IMAX. I just so love Bob’s character then. No worries. Carefree.

I also love Disney Princesses movies. Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White, among others are the ones that I watch (together with my niece who seem to influence me). I am enjoying those movies for they really impart good character and points to ponder at the end of each story. Besides, there will always be a kid in each and every one of us.

A “kid” movie that I would love to watch is the final installment of Shrek (Forever After). I once declared myself as Fiona, and my angel as Shrek, LOL! But that’s that. You won’t see us wearing Shrek Costumes though to portray the characters. Probably my niece would love too. But she’s fonder of Disney Princesses. And maybe after that, I would try and watch Despicable Me, which I heard surpasses the expectations of the producers. In fact, I guess it even surpasses the turnout of Eclipse: The Twilight Saga.

Max's Chicken All-You-Can

The news about Max's Chicken All-You-Can promo was introduced to me (via email) last June 18 (a day before the launch of the promo). I am on doubt though at that time if it's for real or just one of the many fraud email messages that had been circulating like a virus over the internet.

But upon visiting one of Max's stores, it came to my senses that it is for real. Basically, they offer a Chicken All-You-Can treat from 6pm to 10pm daily for a price of P165. You can simply add P39 for a bottomless Pepsi Cola products. For rice orders, they offer P31 per cup.

Still, I did not try it for I don't know if I could really consume a lot and make justice to it's price of P165. Until...

Last Tuesday, after accompanying my girl in claiming her prize at Makati, she treated me with Max's Chicken All-You-Can. And my limit? I only got to consume four quarters of a chicken. It really made me full. Not really that advisable to those who does not have a very "BIG" appetite. Anyhow, it was still a delicious treat. Max's Chicken is like no other. Thumbs up!

Healthy Plate and Healthy Protein Meal at Kenny Rogers Roasters

I love holidays. It's when you can spend the night light and won't worry about waking up early the next day. Thus, last Tuesday, I accompany my girl at Mizuno, Makati to buy jogging pants using her gift certificate. We thought of eating dinner at Shakey's nearby but resorted at eating at Trinoma instead.

I always go for healthy (if not cheap) food. Hence, we have our dinner at Kenny Rogers Roasters. As always, I go for the healthy plate.

On the other hand, my girl go for the healthy protein.

Healthy plate costs P175 which consists of regular-sized iced tea, island dressing, double corn muffin, chicken classic, all vegetable salad, and regular-sized fruit salad.

We spotted the Eclipse Tumbler displayed; hence, we asked how to avail one. The cashier informed us that it costs P25 provided you order a hotdog or burger value meal. We do, and my girl chose Jacob Black over Edward Cullen.

Tacsiyapo Wall, Isdaan, Gerona, Tarlac

Last long weekend (June 12-14), my girl's family and I had an outing at Hundred Islands, Alaminos, Pangasinan. The travel is a total fun. Everyone had a story to tell.

On our way home, we had an early dinner at Isdaan, Gerona, Tarlac where the popular Tacsiyapo Wall can be found. The Tacsiyapo Wall is a wall where you can throw in fragile objects (e.g. plates, cups, saucers, and even television sets) to the wall. Before throwing, it is suggested that you shout "Tacsiyapo" and aim at a certain frame on the wall. This believed to have relieved someone from stress. But, it seem to go the other way around for us.

It was raining when we arrived. Good thing, people from the Isdaan is courteous enough to greet us with their umbrella and have us seated in their waiting area. But waiting seem to last forever for NO ONE approach us for accommodation or anything. I so thought we Filipinos were hospitable. Now that my girl's stress level is beginning to rise, her cousin asked for a place to be seated and be served.

STRESSED!

And just when I thought this is a beginning of a beautiful impression, we were surprised to be placed in a somewhat isolated 'kubo' full of not yet cleaned pots from the previous customer, I suppose. To top it of, the smell stinks! Anyhow, it was cleaned by a crew with a very tiny 'dirty' towel. Forgive my sarcastic approach.

Is it really required?!

We ordered and was advised to have the food served for around 20-30 minutes.

We wander around and have some picture-taking at the Tacsiyapo Wall. My girl, for the nth time, is dismayed. The wall does not have a target for "below quality service" but it does have something for "rude customers". "How they could be that biased?," my girl exclaimed. Oh well... A one-sided affair.

If there would be something to be applaud here, that's the turn-around time. They were on time, 30 minutes. But to our dismay, the bulalo soup that we craved about is sooooooo cold! Even the sisig does not emit the smoke it has to give. And yes, I won't give a dime. The food is not that delicious either. The only food served that would be of good quality was the tinupig na manok. Other than that, we could have just enjoyed a number of KFC bucket meals at NLEX.

Honestly, we could have easily run away from paying our bill. Why not? No one ever attended to our needs right after serving our food (which is supposedly served hot). But, we have a kind heart. So, we asked for the bill and patiently wait. My girl's instinct seem to be excellent. She asked me to recompute it. And alas! They over-billed us. The bill is P200 over.

Really, we would never dine in Isdaan again. *sigh*

Icebreaker Scrambles

After attending the 62nd Anniversary of FEBC last Saturday, my angel and I proceed to SM North EDSA. I happen to notice a store right beside an escalator with a considerable number of people falling in line (similar to the line of lotto outlets). I grew curious and found out that it was scrambles sold at (Php) 7, 10, and 17. I also saw the presentation and the strawberry-color made me not to buy it.

The following Monday (that is yesterday), we (my officemates and I) had a little road trip at lunch time. Someone also suggested to buy scrambles at SM North EDSA (one at the parking lot and/or jeepney terminal). We head on there but was a bit hesitant (still because of the strawberry-color). Thus, they told me that it is not strawberry. It was the same scramble that we love back when we were still in elementary (late 1980's). I give it a try.

The toppings (the powdered milk and tiny marshmallows) brings back my childhood memories of that scramble that I got to buy every dismissal. I love it.

That had been addicting for we drop by again at SM North EDSA to buy one. So addicting!

There were two (2) branches of this Icebreaker Scrambles that I know of: (1) SM North EDSA beside the escalator (I believe that was in front of Blue Magic and (2) SM North EDSA Jeepney Terminal (In front of BDO?).

Free SM Movie Passes from Greenwich

Last Saturday, I had a family time with my family at SM Baliwag. We dine in at Greenwich for Greenwich pizza was Stephanie's new found favorite. My sister ordered pasta meals for us four and a family pizza. Luckily, with that family pizza, we were given two free SM Movie Passes.

Can't wait to watch a movie now :D

After claiming the ODM Pilipinas Watch from Young Star I treated my girl at Healthy Shabu Shabu by CH, Level 4 - Main Mall (near Toys R' Us), Robinsons Galleria. As always, I gave her the liberty to choose what to eat. With that, she ordered Mixed Seafood Set A at PhP505 and a hot calamansi juice at PhP95. As for me, I ordered Mixed Angus Beef Fried Rice at PhP285 as suggested by the crew. After a few moments of waiting and taking pictures of my new ODM Pilipinas watch, our food was served...

Mixed Angus Beef Fried Rice

With the mixed seafood set alone, we were already full. It might probably because of the soup. But you cannot help eating it. Served hot. I mean, cooked hot right in front of you (You can cook it yourself or ask the crew to prepare it for you). Ordering the fried rice seem to be a lame decision. We just have if for a take out.

Aside from eating healthy, the thing that I love about this resto is the way you call a crew's attention. I guess RFID technology is used in this gadget. No need to wait for a crew to look at you in the eye and ask for something. Just press the button. Your table number will appear in the service LED board, and a crew will approach you in no time.

Japanese Halo-Halo

We thought that the crew might have just served it incorrectly. But with our worried eyes, the crew smiled at us and says, its FREE! WOW! I guess that's the only time when we really have to cry (playfully) for we were already full. Nonetheless, it was a healthy cup of halo-halo. And here's the aftermath...

I payed the bill with a 10% for I have my privilege card; and an additional of 10% for the service charge. What's nice about their billing is that they deducted the discount first before computing for the service charge. :)

I am not really an internet buff. As you see, I only update my blog a few days in a month. Sometimes, it will take me a week or two. Well, it is not really because I am not; but because my schedule won’t permit me to do so. Most of the time, I travel – a call from my work. Lucky if the place where I would be staying offers free Wi-Fi or when I bring along my SmartBro with me. So, whenever I get the chance to surf the net, what do I do?

No, I am not Facebooking nor Tweeting. I am not really that active on those social media sites. Well, I peek at times; but not really posting anything. What’s keeping me busy in surfing the net is AyosDito.ph.

Yes, I do use my time just by surfing in this online shopping site. It does not necessarily entail that I will buy online. It is just a matter of looking into the things I would like to buy on the net on how much does it cost in the current market.

Say last month, I look for cellphones for sale from the site, specifically the E71 model of Nokia. I just love to have one for its Wi-Fi capabilities. I simply look at the price range so that I would be knowledgeable of its price range.

Taco Bell, Trinoma

I can hardly remember the name and how much our order was. Forgive me, it was almost three (3) months ago. Nonetheless, I enjoyed my meal, it was heavy on the stomach :)

House of Sisig at PhilCoA

After my 6.6K run in 0:53:43, ProgRunner, Manny, and I dropped by at House of Sisig beside Jollibee at PhilCoA for dinner. I am really not a fan of sisig (pork sisig in particular) for it really makes me dizzy after eating. But since both of my companions wanted to eat there, I give it a go. I'm sure there are other choices anyway.

From UP Academic Oval (at the Oblation), we rode on a jeepney going to SM North/PhilCoA. We alight in front of Jollibee and pass by the overpass to finally arrive at the House of Sisig. I never thought that it exists right beside the Jollibee where I had my breakfast back on my Merrell Adventure Run.

The store is almost full. Glad that we spotted a table where we could be seated. ProgRunner and I sit comfortably (witch matching throw pillows and magazines) while Manny fall in line to order our food. We had Tuna Sisig and Squid Sisig (for me); both costing PhP110 plus an extra rice of PhP20. The ambiance is quite good and relaxing despite the narrowness of the store.

Our food arrived a few minutes after ordering, and I am impressed with their presentation. Their rice had a serving of atchara (a sweet one) and their sisig goes with a brown paper to cover it.

I enjoyed my plate and my sisig (although I have to get rid of the onions from it, I should have ordered an onion free squid sisig, LOL!) and emptied it. My stomach's satisfied, my taste buds aren't. But for sisig lovers, I'm pretty sure they enjoy it.

The Old Spaghetti House, Paseo de Sta. Rosa, Laguna

To those who frequent my personal turned into running blog, would have already know what I have eaten from The Old Spaghetti House (TOSH), Paseo de Sta. Rosa, Laguna. For those who don't, let me tell you the story.

We arrived at Paseo de Sta. Rosa, Laguna more than an hour earlier against the official gunstart of the Greenfields City Sunset Run. With that, and being unable to take a lunch, I asked ProgRunner and ChickenLegs to accompany me and eat. We were suppose to dine at Jollibee, but when we passed by TOSH, I immediately turned left and asked them to have our meal, my lunch, there.

I browsed through the menu and spotted my favorite, the Seafood Marinara that costs P185. It was a Best Seller and a Healthy option among their pastas. But when the pasta is delivered on our table, I guess I had made the wrong decision, for only an hour to go, I will be running a 10K.

But I was not stopped by anyone from emptying my plate.

It just tastes good, no, I mean better; no, it was best!

Would really try another plate on my next visit.

A Healthy Plate at Kenny Roger's Trinoma

Each time my girl and I meet up at Trinoma, we would normally eat dinner together, spending quality time with each other. We frequent at Chef d' Angelo and Paotsin Asia. Of course, sometimes, we would crave for other taste than pasta and dimsum. Thus, last Monday, we prefer to dine at Kenny Rogers Roasters.

We ordered a healthy plate that consists of all vegetable salad, double corn muffin, chicken classic, fruit salad, and an iced tea all for the price of P175.

Healthy?

We shared the plate for we are not that really hungry. It is actually a good choice for us. A healthy plate at a fair price. Just make sure you don't eat the chicken skin.

10.10.10 Run for Pasig River

I can still remember how a runner friend told me that there could possibly a grand running event to commence on October 10, 2010. It was that special for the date is 10-10-10. It was the same ‘hype’ other people gave at 09-09-09 and 08-08-08.

We were guessing that it could be the Condura Run for the Dolphins or the Timex Run. Little did we know that it would be a continuation of the race we once supported for the Pasig River – A Run for the Pasig River last November 8, 2009.

A Run for the Pasig River

This year, it was dubbed as 10.10.10. RUN FOR PASIG RIVER. It is of the same goal, as aimed by the "Malinaw" advocacy, to bring back what Pasig River is used to be. I suppose you have heard a lot of projects supporting Pasig River as pioneered by ABS-CBN Foundation.

As I educate myself about the race, I would love to take part and sign-up in 10.10.10 run for Pasig River. I would really love to be part of history. Imagine runners from all walks of life running at different distance categories, starting from different points, and crossing ONE FINISH LINE to celebrate a good cause. It will surely be an epic.

And while Derek Ramsay encouraged 11,000 runners in the Century Superbods Run; let’s see how Piolo Pascual and his amazing 47min 10K personal record could create an enormous number of runners – 101,010 target of this humble race.

Looking Forward at Traveling with My Angel

I am not a frequent traveler. My angel is. Well, it is because his job requires him to be one. He has to visit substations and have it quality assured. We both hope that we could travel to those places that he had been someday – not for work, but for leisure.

Well, as a sign of love, he would normally bring home something for me. It could be the place’s special delicacy, key chain, refrigerator magnets, souvenir shirts, girl stuff, among others. If I had to have a list of them, I would already have a collection. My cabinet is already full of shirts from Thailand, Bohol, China, Cebu, Boracay, and everywhere else. Our refrigerator is already full of these island souvenirs that my niece almost always wanted to play with them. I had a collection of key chain in my display cabinet. And best of all, I had savor most of the specialties of these various places. I love Broas (Lady Fingers) from Quezon, Pastel from Cagayan De Oro, peanuts from Iligan City, dried fish from Cebu, many more. But there’s one thing I won’t expect from him, durian from Davao. I really cannot swallow the fruit even if he encourages me to do so. I bet many already know why.

But beyond these pasalubong, I am looking forward at traveling with him in the near future.

Sizzling Plate Baguio

We had a literal 'Dinner at Baguio' last Tuesday. We travel all the way from Quezon City to Baguio ~~just~~ to savor Sizzling Plate Baguio at 135 Abanao Extension, cor. Cariño St., Baguio City with telephone number (074) 443-8486.

My order then was a Garlic Steak (sizzling juicy prime tenderloin served with gravy and garlic) that costs P222, a glass of hot calamansi juice at P29, and a cup of rice.

Did I enjoy my dinner? I cannot really answer, probably I am too exhausted that I don't get to enjoy it; or maybe, I am looking for the taste of T-Bone of Snackaroo.

Dilis is in the 'Red List'

When I was young, I hate eating Dilis; that small bony fish that tastes so salty and is usually served fried. During those times, I believe dilis is normally associated with the poor; probably because, it costs less compared to other staple food available in the country.

But as time passes by, I began to appreciate this fish. My schoolmates and I would normally buy ‘dilis’ or ‘pusit’ that is packed in transparent plastic sachets which costs P1. It is readily available in almost all sari-sari stores and on roving stores that flock public schools during dismissal. These ‘delicacies’ are coated with a reddish powder that is sweet and spicy.

I continue to learn to value dilis as I grow older. I remember we were searching for those in the grocery when my girl is about to cook an Anchovy and Capers Pasta for me. On top of that, dilis is one of the many creatures that can only be found in the Philippines; such that, it is a Philippine’s pride.

Recent study, however, seem to put disappointment on me. That fish that I learned to value will soon become extinct together with other 28 RP fish species; as released in the ‘Red List’. You may find the report below. Hope it alarmed you in some way.

Red List Status of Marine Endemic Teleosts (Bony Fishes) of the Philippines
This study, ‘Red List’, is authored by prominent biologists Dr. Kent Carpenter, Moonyeen Nida Alava, Mike Joshua Palomar, Dr. Beth Polidoro and environmental lawyer Rodolfo Ferdinand Quicho Jr. Their study shows that this would-be extinction is brought about by the climate change that is happening to our planet. The destructive typhoons, tsunamis, and earthquakes here and there are among the results of this so-called ‘change’.

I hope these alarming effects of climate change could reach virally. Promoting awareness could be equivalent to encouraging people to act upon what’s really happening. With that I commend a number of organizations that took their share on this social awareness. SM City Marilao, where I celebrated Earth Hour; National Geographic Channel, where I participated on their run for the Earth Day; and LopezLink that published the recent study I had mentioned. Well, to help spread the virus, let us all use our social media. Be a Facebook fan of LopezLink (now Like) and Follow LopezLink on Twitter to keep us updated as well. And don’t be so timid to hit the Re-tweet button. It was just like paying it forward. Hand in hand, it is the time to change climate change!

Prepping Up for the Big Day

A lot have been asking me, “When’s the big day?” or “When will you be running down the aisle?” My answer is consistent, “We have to have a house first before anything else.” While it is true that we were really working out on having our home built before THE DAY; we already had small plans about it.

We were one of the many couples of different religious beliefs: he is an Evangelical Christian while I’m a Roman Catholic by faith. I admit that it had become a problem after three (3) years of our relationship; but not anymore. I am more than willing to walk down the aisle somewhere else than the Roman Catholic Church. We were actually planning to have it at The Greenery: both the wedding and the reception.

As for the motif, I would love to have it green. I guess boys really don’t want to dig into details in terms of this one, so my choice will prevail, LOL. We were also thinking of buying wedding favor bags at Divisoria to save some on our budget.

We also had a shortlist on our entourage, but everything is stored in our memory; nothing written on a piece of paper yet. Our song while I’m running [I mean walking] down the aisle would be “Mahal Kita” by Gerald Santos, which will be sang by his churchmate.

Slowly, we had been prepping up for the big day. But not really into a detailed plan yet. But it is a joyful thought of having talked about it once in a while.

Ramberry Suites, Quezon City

If you were looking for an affordable place to stay overnight in the heart of Quezon City but cannot find one, I highly recommend Ramberry Suites. It is located at #90 Matatag St., Diliman, Quezon City.

Last Friday, my cousins and I had our stay there for our upcoming Merrell Adventure Run at Wawa, Montalban. We opted at staying here at Quezon City than travel our way from Bulacan too early in the wee hours.

And I believe we had made the best decision for we still have a place to stay too after the race.

We paid P1,450 for a room with a double and single bed. An additional bed will deem a P300 additional fee. The amount paid is good for 24 hours of stay [that is 12nn-12nn the following day]. It is also inclusive of a single breakfast only. The breakfast served then was a cup of rice, an egg, a longanisa, and a coffee.

As for the room, it has [of course] toilet and bath, a personal refrigerator, and aircondition, and a cable TV. I am not sure though if WiFi is available.

It was cheap right? If ever we would be needing to stay again at Quezon City, I would be staying at Ramberry Suites.

After a long time of thinking, I finally decided to visit an OB/GYN to have a professional advice regarding my dysmenorrhea. And I am glad that since my angel won't be available to accompany me, my family did [my mom, my brother and his daughter, and my sister].

Our first stop was to have lunch before anything else. With that, we decided to dine in a restaurant that we haven't eaten yet. And as we walk through SM Annex, we were invited by Metro [by Tokyo Tokyo].

And so we placed our orders:

Well, I am a person who is not easily satisfied with food; I'm a bit choosy most of the time. But I must say that I enjoyed our meal for that moment. Yakimeshi is a thumbs up. I did not have a generous share of the steak, but I love the potato wedges on the sidings. For the Surf & Turf, I love the shrimp! I'm a seafood lover, that's why.

However, I believe the price is not so affordable. What do you think?

Shakey's Monster Meal Deal

If I am craving for chicken and spaghetti, there's only one store that would occupy my mind: Shakey's. Their chicken is just great, and their pasta tastes just right - not too sweet, not too Italian.

So here's just another Shakey's lunch out day for us. But it ain't that ordinary for we ordered the Shakey's Monster Meal Deal worth PhP1,649 that is good for 10 to 12 persons.

The set starts off with a deliciously crisp brick-oven baked Manager’s Choice followed by a large Pepperoni Thin Crust Pizza. This pizza pair is perfectly paired with two pasta dishes: the rich and flavorful Classic Spaghetti and Carbonara Supreme Platter. On top of all that, an awesome twosome Chick ‘N Chips Party Pack is served with 3 pitchers of ice cold Coke.

Louisam Maguro

An officemate celebrated his birthday last March 25. With that, he generously treat us at Louisam Maguro, a Japanese Restaurant at Margarita Building, 28 Matalino St., cor. Masikap Ext., Central District QC with phone number 922 01 29.

We were a large group, that's why it is understandable that the turn around time of our orders is quite long. To make it worse, my order is served last. But hey, it is worth the wait.

I had no complaints even if my order was served late for it was hot, freshly cooked. And the price is fair enough. I come back to the office full. More so, we were treated with two large complimentary red iced tea. Aren't they generous?

I fetch my girl last night at food court, Trinoma. I asked her what and where she would like to eat. She answered without hesitation, "I want pasta, anywhere but Chef d' Angelo." She must have gotten fed up with Seafoods Pasta of the said store.

Our choices then were Old Spaghetti House and Italianni's. My girl's choice was the latter since she wanted to avail of her 20% discount using his Bistro Frequent Foodie (BFF) Discount Card.

And so we proceed at the store located at Space 4010, M4 Level, Triangle North of Manila, Quezon City [Contact No - 9153589/9153582].

We were welcomed warmly by the crew, made us sit at the couch, and hand us the menu. While we were still choosing through the menu, a crew already offered us bread with olive oil and asked us if we would want a glass of water. Honestly, for me, that was something. I am already hungry for I skipped snack, and having to wait for our order would really make me frown. But how we were treated at Italianni's makes me wanted to go back there anytime.

We placed our orders, Seafood Cioppino (a store's specialty) and Shrimp and Mushroom Linguini (a new addition to their menu).

While waiting for our order, we almost consumed all the bread. In that instant, a friendly crew asked if we wanted our basket to be refilled. Aren't they that generous? Of course I said no, but the fact that we actually can have another free serving makes me add more stars for the store.

As they serve our food, it was covered and still hot. It was a large plate with an appetizing presentation.

Seafood Cioppino consists of mussels, shrimp, baby clams and tender calamari sauted in fresh basil (the leaves used in pesto - my girl's favorite) and red wine cioppino sauce valued at P395.

Obviously, my plate consists of shrimp and mushroom valued at P395. Frankly, my plate is not that good, I was not able to finish it. But my girl's pasta is great. She had emptied it! I took a spoonful of it and loved it too. Needless to say, it was indeed a store's specialty.

Using my girl's BFF, our supposedly bill of P790 was discounted 20% but has an additional service charge (anyway, we're satisfied), making us only pay P688.42. Will surely be dining at Italianni's one of these days.

Our Group Outing at Patio Jose Resort, V. Luna, Quezon City

Our group, the Applications Development Group, held our outing last Friday-Saturday (March 19-20, 2010) at Patio Jose Resort, V. Luna, Quezon City. It was a resort owned by the TV host and actor Jose Manalo.

I was not able to truly enjoy our outing for I had several things to attend to. Beforehand, I attended the Chat with National Geographic (NatGeo) about the upcoming Earth Day Run on April 18 at SM Mall of Asia grounds. We did not expect the chat to be that long, anyhow, it was fruitful.

In that regard, we arrived late at Patio Jose. We immediately have our dinner buffet while most of our group were already enjoying the videoke. Others were already drinking alcoholic beverages; while some were grilling some fish.

I am really not into the outing for I still have a run to attend to the following morning, at 5AM. So, I just joined the videoke group to have memoirs in the pictures.

When most of the boys were already enjoying the pool, I comforted myself in one of the rooms and tried to keep my eyes closed, even I cannot lull myself to sleep.

In fairness, the resort is a good place to stay, and has packages to offer.

If only the schedule did not interfere with my planned activities, I surely would treat myself a swim.

The Chat with National Geographic (NatGeo) about the Earth Day Run 2010 was held at Cafe Breton, Level 1, SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City. I was one of the few lucky bloggers invited in the event. Together with RunningAtom, we attended the event.

What has transpired in the event was posted in my personal turned into running blog. What I will share here is about my review/experience at Cafe Breton as a fine dining.

My order was Mango Fruit Slush at P90 and Galette Bretonne [their specialty] at P254.50. Galette Bretonne consists of spinach, shrimps sauteed with crab meat, fresh cream, and gruyere cheese. RunningAtom's was Strawberry Ice Cream Milk Shake at P105 and Galette Marrakech at P211. Galette Marrakech consists of whole spicy moroccan beef sausage with egg, onions, and tomato provencal.

Disappointingly, my order did not arrive [only the fruit flush arrived]. We were hesitant to follow-up the order too. But I have no idea if they make the organizers pay for the food that do not arrive or not. I'll leave them off to their conscience. With that turn out, RunningAtom generously shared his plate with me.

I don't like the sausage. Other than that, I enjoyed eating the food. I also like the ambiance of the second floor. It was indeed suitable for such gatherings.

Kenny Rogers Roasters at Trinoma

Last Tuesday, after registering to the adiNation and canvassing on overhead projectors, my girl and I had our low calorie dinner at Kenny Rogers Roasters.

My [healthy calorie] plate consists of grilled fish fillet [which I don't know what kind of], steamed vegetables, and garlic rice. The meal also includes iced tea. This one costs PhP175.

I finished my plate. And I want it because it is healthy; only, the fish fillet is not that tasty [unless you put the sauce provided].

My girl's plate is a regular fruits and vegetable salad with a caesar dressing. It costs PhP65.

Aside from being able to voice out your opinions and practice freedom of speech, another fun part of being a blogger is being able to enjoy freebies. Yes, being a blogger sometimes entitles one to be able to grab a freebie, a discount coupon, and even a gift certificate (GC).

Last Sunday, after running my very first 10K, my girl and I were handed Blogger IDs, free Purefoods hotdog sandwich, and a Greenwich GC worth P100 in the UNILAB's Wellness Village courtesy of Yehey! Corporation.

My girl and I met yesterday at SM North EDSA, The Block. We were supposed to have the results of her check-up at Healthway, but decided to just have it by Wednesday [the schedule of her follow-up check up]. And so we proceed to TriNoMa to claim her Merrell Adventure Run race kit. Afterwards, I asked her where she wanted to eat. Knowing that we both have Greenwich GCs, we dined at Greenwhich located at the food court of Landmark.

We ordered Pasta Chicken Plate choosing their new 3-Cheese and Sausage Macaroni [at P159] and Big Time Lunch A [at P99].

Pasta Chicken Plate. The picture is more mouth-watering than the real presentation. And I have to say that the chicken is not that good as compared to let's say Jollibee or Shakey's. As for the pasta, well, it tastes just right. It is also heavy on the stomach.

Big Time Lunch A. It consists of rice, chicken, and spaghetti. Same as the Pasta Chicken Plate, the picture is way more presentable than my plate. Anyhow, it is FREE.

I believe their pizza is way much good than their other products. But next time, I would love to try their American Lunch Specials.

Chicken Bacolod

Ash Wednesday marked the beginning of the Lenten Season for us Roman Catholics. This is the season wherein we were supposed to abstain every Fridays from eating meat. As for me, as much as possible, I refrain from eating meat on Fridays; unless otherwise on a situation where I cannot say no to meat. At the same sense, I refrain from blogging on Fridays. That's my form of abstinence on the things that I love to do.

Last Friday, we had our lunch at Chicken Bacolod nearby. While everyone had their spicy wings (at P68) or inasal (pecho at P96), I had my chopsuey (at P115). The cost is just fair for it was a heapful serving of chopsuey.

Rice were ordered separately, and I had a plain one at P25. My colleagues ordered fried rice at P26 only to find themselves disatisffied making them order another cup of garlice rice this time at P28.

To save, we just had a tap water instead of ordering drinks.

KFC Twister Toasted

My bestfriend invited me for a lunch out earlier, and so I agreed. We had our lunch at KFC at Matalino St. near our office. What do I get for lunch? This one...

Well, not really, I only had a bite or two. My real meal was KFC's Kung Pao, I am reserving the Twister for my snack later. Looking at it, you might think that this toasted bread is a light meal. But think again, this one is packed with crunchy chicken fillet, pizza sauce, chicken and beef pepperoni, onions and mozarella cheese all for P89 with a regular-sized drink.

Chocolate Cream Chip, Starbucks

It was HOT! I just can't tolerate the heat penetrating in my skin. RunningAddict invited us to have a cup of coffee at Starbucks. We approved of the invite and proceed to the coffee shop after having my lunch of my favorite sinigang at Ulo-Ulo.

Since I'm ON to NO COFFEE, I ordered Chocolate Cream Chip [with additional chocolate drizzle for FREE]. I had refrain from coffee but can't get enough of chocolate. My bad.

The tall size of the frap was P145. If you prefer other drink than chocolate, you can also have Strawberries and Cream [still, coffee free].

RunningAddict, on the other hand, ordered Green Tea Frap [at P145]. She's into losing weight, so she indulged with this cup.

I believe I had encouraged her by sending her the fourth item in Yahoo's 10 Weight Loss Tips That Work in One Minute or Less. And let me quote:

Only, I believe she failed the second part after the sipping, LOL!

Canyon Cove Beach Club, Nasugbu, Batangas

As I was searching for pictures of food or places to share with you today, I reached my pictures during our company summer outing last year. It was held at the Canyon Cove Beach Club, Nasugbu, Batangas. I am not part of the prepare team nor deal with any of the transactions and/or negotiations with regards to the organization of our outing; hence, I won't be able to share with you here in detail of the costs. But, I will be able to share with you the fun we had back there.

Our outing was dubbed as SFactor (combination of Survivor and Fear Factor). I can no longer remember how we were grouped, what I know was, we were Team Green. And as far as I recall, we fall at the 3rd spot with the activities we had.

We had gathered in our company as early as 5:30AM and have our breakfast at our canteen. Then we're off to ride our bus that will take us to Batangas. I am not really the kind that can sleep while traveling so I just played PSP (Bomber Man) on the way. However, that just make me feel dizzy, so I just content myself in viewing the streets on our way. We stopped by at SLEX (I suppose) to attend to the call of nature and/or buy something to eat. After a few minutes, we are all set to go again.

We lost our way a few meters away from the Canyon Cove, glad that one from the bus had instructed the driver the correct way. And so we arrived, and I can't help but be amazed of the venue - a thumbs up! We left our baggage in one of the buildings there and feed our hungry stomach with the buffet lunch prepared for us beside the shore. We were allowed to wander around the club before the game proper started. Our group played touch the color on the play ground with swings and slide. Others were too excited to swim on the pool, while some had their mini-trail around the beach.

When it was already time to gather for the game, we gather around the pool to participate and cheer our teammates. We won the first game - a relay on the pool. And my poor memory disappoints me for I cannot remember who won the next game which is a sort of putting puzzle pieces together whose pieces were scattered at the bottom of the pool.

We were then given our halo-halo to pacify the heat. Also, the kayak relay game begun at the beach. I am not a courageous person with respect to water (I don't know how to swim), so I just entertain myself and cheer for our group. Unfortunately, our kayak is too stubborn to follow my teammates. We lost that part of the game.

And for the game where I participated in, you will be surprised for it is on the tug of war. Yes, I had participated there. I believe my inch of effort contributed to our win (please bear with me, LOL). Well, my hands turned red after the game, and I am happy that we won.

We also had the volleball as part of the game. Being a person that is not athletic, I (once more) content myself by cheering for our team - and we lost the game. Nonetheless, it was a game played with a heart - and with so much fun.

The supposedly last part of the game was a jump shot. But we were not able to have it for the sun already set. As a matter of fact, it was already raining. We just climb on to our room to change clothes and prepare for the night.

We ate our dinner (still beside the beach) and go back to our room. There is, however, a sort of Mr. and Ms. competition but we were not that into it. My roommates had tresspassed the rooms of others to enjoy the night. They had a drink. And since I am a big NO to alcohols, I just play with my PSP until I lull myself to sleep.

The following morning, we had our buffet breakfast inside a sort of conference room. We, for the last time, enjoy the pool (while others enjoy the beach). And then it's time to go back to reality (to work). Nonetheless, it was F-U-N!
